Wout van Heusden was born in 1896, into a working class family. From an early age he had been greatly involved in painting and drawing, yet he was apprenticed by a house painter. He became familiair with graphical techniques by taking evening classes. Initially, he started painting surrealistic depictions. He later became familiair with etching and aquatint and his intruiging worlds, wonderful figures and surrealistic landscapes began to take more shape.

Van Heusden's drawings can nowadays be found in multiple Dutch collections. Van Heusden himself passed away in 1982.
