About the artist

Ave Pildas is an American photographer who was born in Cincinnati, Ohio, in 1939. He currently lives in Santa Monica. After working as a photographer for Downbeat Magazine in the Ohio Valley and Pennsylvania in the 1960s, he moved to Switzerland. There he studied graphic design at the Kunstgewerbeschule in Basel under Armin Hoffman. He returned to the United States in 1968 and settled in Los Angeles as an Art Director in 1971. He began his career as a freelance photographer and designer, specialising in architectural and corporate photography. He photographed Los Angeles in the 1970s. He has had many exhibitions among others, contemporary arts centre, Cincinnati; Photographers Gallery London, London; Janus Gallery, Los Angeles; Gallerie Diaframma, Milan; Cannon Gallery, Amsterdam; Gallerie 38, Zurich. His photographs are included in the collections of the Museum of Modern Art, New York; the Bibliotheca National, Paris; the University of Arizona. He also is a professor Emeritus at Otis College of Design.
