About the artist

Cor W. Bouter was a Dutch artist who was born in Gouda on 1 October 1888. He died on 9 January 1966. He lived in Gouda, Voorburg and The Hague and was the brother of Pieter A. Bouter. Bouter is known for his paintings of interiors and exteriors with figures, after the style of Blommers and Israëls. He also was a painter of cityscapes, after the style of Klinkenberg and landscapes with horses and cattle. Cor Bouter was mainly with his interiors a follower of The Hague. His work was very popular during his life. Before the Second World War, his paintings sold like wildfire in North-America and Canada. He often signed these works with a pseudonym, including C. Verschuur, C. Hendriks, C. Willems en A.J. van Eijbergen.
