About the artist
Dirck Volkertsz. Coornhert was a Dutch artist, musician, theologian, philosopher and writer. He is most famous for his copper engravings after Maarten van Heemskerck’s (1498-1574) Italian drawings, as noted by Karel van Mander in his Schilderboeck. Coornhert also published the Dutch translations of some of the most important literary works such as Homer’s Odyssey and wrote several texts, treatises and poems.
