Marjolijn Dijkhuis

Biography

About the artist

After an economical study from 1993 to 1995, Marjolijn Dijkhuis went to study Fashion and Design at the Hogeschool Amsterdam and went to the Academie Artemis for Styling. She currently is a stylist and a painter and sculptor. In her paintings and sculptures she tries to represent everyday things such as motherhood, sadness, desires, lust, animals and plants in a unconventional way. Growing up in a ordinary small farm village in the Netherlands and travelling all over the world later in her life, she realised how special the ordinary really is when coming back to the Netherlands. She tries to depict her memories and document her memories in her paintings through organic and geometrical elements, intense colours and often the colour gold, showing their beauty. Her bronze sculptures are ‘free’, often humorous because of funny movements and impossible positions. Just like her paintings, the sculptures often are somewhat rough, alternated with elaborate details.
