About the artist
Willem Johan Boogaard was born in Haarlem in 1824, he died in Antwerpen in 1888. He was a pupil of the painter P.F. van Os, specialising in the painting of animals. He lived and work in Haarlem. Later on, he moved to Antwerpen where he set up his studio. Boogaard was a painter of horses and other animals. He also painted still lifes. Although he was born in Holland, he is considered a Belgian painter. His work is included in the collections of Gemeentemuseum Den Haag, Teylers Museum Haarlem.
