- About the artworkA COLLECTION OF THIRTEEN INK AND CHALK DRAWINGS BY JOHAN GERARD SINIA (1875-1948)
Sinia started his professional career as an army officer, a captain of the infantry. He came to Indonesia in 1903 and stayed there till 1908, visiting different out-stations of the archipelago. He was a self-taught draughtsman and graphic artist dedicating himself to the arts from 1915 onwards. Drawings by his hand were published
in Weekblad voor Indië, 3rd vol. 1906, in the cultural monthly Nederlandsch-Indië Oud en Nieuw between 1917 and 1926, in De Vrouw en haar Huis IX, 1925, in Onze Aarde, Dec. 1928 and several other books and magazines.
