Especially created for 'Leeuwarden Culturele Hoofdstad 2018'.
Fryslan Boppe is a free hanging bronze sculpture which shows the strong 'Mienskip' as people say in Friesland. 'Mienskip': being able to work together and doing things together so that - at the end of the day - the result will be huge. It is also a symbolic sculpture about communication and working together.
Presubscription and viewing the sculpture in reality is possible from November 8th.
The official 'launch' will be on Saturday December 30.

Anke Birnie is a Dutch sculptor who was born in Doornspijk in 1943. She studied sculpture at the Artibus academy in Utrecht. She has been visiting many important exhibitions of renowned sculptors in the Netherlands and abroad. Although Birnie’s work is inspired by famous artists, especially Alberto Giacometti and Germaine Richier, she has developed her own typical style. She creates sculptures of standing figures in motion, classical inspired torsos and sculptures that are suspended in the air. Her figures usually have long limbs. Anke Birnie’s work is included in various corporate and private collections worldwide.
