- About the artistAn essential aspect of the art of Maureen Bachaus (1969) is the human psyche, the freedom of expression, the human identity. Intense conversations with people become increasingly important as an input for her work, and have led for instance to the ‘Identification project’. Core questions of the ‘Identification project’ are: who are you, and how did you become the person that you are? Is your identity your own free choice or does your genes, your country, your religion, your family, or your government determine this? The identification project consists of photo-assemblages, installations and video-art projects. All the works are actually ‘portraits’ of people, in which their feelings and thoughts have been a focal point. Maureen Bachaus studied at the ‘Academie Beeldende Kunsten, Maastricht’ (1986-1991) and at the ‘Conceptual Post-graduate Academy, Amsterdam’. Recent exhibitions were in The Netherlands 2016, London 2016, Macedonia 2015, New York 2014, Ljubljana, 2014, Belgium 2014. Bachaus is co-initiator of the international art collective ‘BAUM’. Bachaus lives in Maastricht, The Netherlands.
