The alphabet, letters, punctuation marks, but also derived forms and combinations thereof underlie the work of Frans Thevis. His ceramic works are usually not narrative and do not need to have a message or deeper meaning. They stand on their own.
The organic forms look tough and robust, despite the transparency of some of the variants. This is reinforced by the monochrome finish. Despite the remarkable surface structures and the rough skin, the work has a certain "nakedness".
