Jan Jordens was a Dutch expressionist from Wageningen. He studied art at The Academy of Fine Arts in The Hague, whereafter he decided to move to Groningen to teach art at a highschool. He quickly became important for the expressionist Dutch art collective 'De Ploeg', which he presided for multiple years. He then became one of the most important local modernist artists. Towards the end of his career Jan Jordens tended towards French Cubism. After retiring he worked more freely by mixing materials such as rope and sand in his work. After his death in 1962, the 'Gemeentemuseum' in The Hague organised an exposition for Jan Jordens.
