  At the beginning of his career, Lemmen was influenced by Degas and Toulouse Lautrec. He particularly depicted subjects from the modern daily life. In 1888, Lemmen became a member of the artist association Les Vingt (Les XX), where he became acquainted with the colour theory of Seurat. He started to paint pointillist and made wonderful portraits. However, Lemmen was too much of a painter to keep working in this style and after 1900 he found a more free style with loose brushstrokes and rich colours.

  Georges Lemmen fue un artista, grabador e ilustrador impresionista y puntillista belga.

  Estudió en la escuela de dibujo de Sint-Joost-ten-Node durante un breve período y en 1888 se unió a Les XX (Les Vingt), un grupo de artistas de vanguardia de artistas y escultores en Bruselas activo entre 1883 y 1893.

  En el A principios de la década de 1880, Lemmen recibió la influencia de Degas y Toulouse-Lautrec y, a partir de 1890, se inclinó hacia el neoimpresionismo, influenciado por Théo van Rysselberghe, también miembro de Les XX. Les XX fue muy influyente en la difusión del neoimpresionismo. Lemmen es conocido principalmente por sus paisajes, bodegones, retratos y paisajes urbanos.

  Expuso en las exposiciones Les XX de Bruselas y en el Salon des Indépendants de París.

  En 1895, Lemmen pintó más en el estilo impresionista tradicional en lugar del puntillismo.

  Su exposición en Bruselas en 1913, una exposición individual, fue un gran éxito.
