Tinus van Doorn fue un pintor y artista gráfico holandés de estilo expresionista. Nacido en Indonesia, su familia regresó a los Países Bajos y se instaló en La Haya cuando tenía ocho años. En 1924, comenzó sus estudios en la Royal Academy of Art, graduándose en 1928. Se casó con Annie Vermeulen, conocida como Akkie.
Fue influenciado por las obras de Marc Chagall y Franz Marc, experimentando con la forma y el color. Su primera gran exposición fue en el Stedelijk Museum en 1933. En sus últimos cuadros, la muerte es un tema recurrente. Van Doorn pudo ver que no se le permitiría pintar como quisiera bajo los nazis. En 1938 se trasladó a Bélgica. Cuando el ejército alemán ocupó Bruselas en 1940, se suicidó junto con su Akkie.
