- Sur l'oeuvre d'artA beautiful nude of the sculptress and ceramist Sybille May. She had a very unique and recognizable strongly stylized style of working in the Art Deco period.
This bronze was edited by Albert Buisson, a well-known publisher and art dealer.
The bronze has a beautiful dark patina and is extensively signed with 'Sibylle May' on the side of the base and on the back 'Ets. Albert Buisson" and the number 167 on the bottom. - Sur l'artiste
Sybille May è una scultrice inglese che ha lavorato a Parigi negli anni '20 e '30. A volte in letteratura si dice anche che fosse americana.
Ha lavorato nel suo stile che è stato fortemente influenzato dal cubismo. Ha applicato questi elementi cubisti nel suo stile decorativo Art Deco. Era un membro del movimento artistico di Arthur Goldscheider "La Stele et l'Évolution" e le sue opere furono esposte anche alla World Exhibition Arts et Decoratifs del 1925, nel padiglione di Goldscheider.
Oltre alle sculture in bronzo, realizzò anche ceramiche e lavorò con l'amico e collega de la Stèle, il ceramista Édouard Cazaux (1889-1974). Oltre a Goldscheider, aveva anche un contratto con l'editore e mercante d'arte Albert Buisson. Sybille May ha anche collaborato con lo scultore Pierre le Faguays.
La sua data di nascita è sconosciuta, Sybille May morì nel 1935 a Parigi.
