The Fauve effect of the Brabantpainters comes forward in the impressionistic style of Paerels. The three dimensional illusion is nicely introduced by the new horizon of the porch of the terrace.

Willem Paerels, nato a Delft (Olanda) 1878 morì a Braine-l'Alleud (Belgio) 1962. Per nascita Willem Paerels aveva la nazionalità olandese ma passò alla nazionalità belga.
Era autodidatta. Dapprima dipinse impressionisti, poi seguì la corrente fauvistica e infine fu con i pittori espressionisti fiamminghi. Willem Paerels dipinse ritratti, figure, nature morte e paesaggi.
Opere di Willem Paerels nei musei di Anversa e Bruxelles (Belgio), dell'Haags Gemeentemuseum (L'Aia) e del Museo Boymans-van Beuningen di Rotterdam.
