Over de kunstenaar

Abraham van der Zee (1882, Schiedam – 1958, Rheden) was a Dutch painter and draughtsman. He trained under Frits Jansen (1856-1928) at the Koninklijke Academie van Beeldende Kunsten (Academy of Fine Arts), The Hague. Van der Zee received three times a Royal Scholarship. He was active in The Hague, but also made trips to other places, amongst others to Walcheren, where he settled in Zoutelande in 1942. There he married Regina Anna la Rivière, who was a painter too. From 1943 to 1958 he stayed in Rheden. Van der Zee made colourful oil paintings in a post-impressionist style. He created landscapes, figures and still lifes.
