Over de kunstenaar

Maurice Dufrène studied at the École des Arts Decoratifs in Paris, in the hopes of being able to pursue a career in painting. However, he ended up taking a job as a furniture designer at La Maison Moderne with Jules Meier-Grafe, specializing in the Art Nouveau style. This style didn’t suit his personal taste so in 1904, he became one of the founding members of the Société des artistes décorateurs and was able to exhibit at their salons for the next thirty years. He adapted to the Art Deco movement in the 1920’s before simplifying his designs as of the 1930’s. Harmony was a very important concept to his work and he preferred to use dark mahogany for his furniture pieces.
