Over de kunstenaar

Willem Klijn was born in Amsterdam in 1892, he was the son of Hendrik Klijn and the brother of Albert Klijn. He attended the Academy of Fine Arts in Amsterdam. He was a pupil of several artists such as Carel Lodewijk Dake, Pieter Dupont, Antoon Derkinderen, André Vlaanderen, Nicolaas van der Waay and his own father Hendrik Klijn. Later in his life he became the teacher of August Gottlieb Arthur Krumme. He worked in Amsterdam, Brussels, Den Helder, Wijk aan Zee and Zandvoort.
Klijn had multiple talents, he was a graphic artist, painter, drawer, watercolor painter, pastelist, etcher, lithographer and a manufacturer of wood carvings. The subjects of his artworks are mostly landscapes, images of animals, religious paintings, mythological paintings and still lives.
He was a member of the Onafhankelijk, the Sint Lucas association, the Rembrandt group and the Brug.
