    A Dutch silver tobacco jar.

    This Régence tobacco jar, partly engraved with scrolling foliage, has a detachable lid in similar outline.
    Also struck with an assay mark of 1795 for Amsterdam.

  • Over kunstenaar
    Jan Bot was a Dutch silver smith. He lived in the 18th century and had his workshop in Amsterdam. He primarily produced silver objects for tobacco use and storage boxes with intricate designs of foliage engraved into them. Nowadays, his works are on display as part of the Niemeyer collection in the Tabaksmuseum in Groningen, The Netherlands.
