This 18th century Russian icon depicts the Mother of God Hodigitria
(She shows the way) of Smolensk.
The Smolenskaja is a variant of the Hodigitria Mother of God,
from Byzant from the 4th century B.C..
The Virgin points to Jesus who is “The Way, The Truth, and The Life”.
This icon is also the Patron of the travelers.
