Sobre o artista

Léon Jouhaud, (Limoges, 1874-1950), was an enamel artist and painter, he painted mainly with watercolor, gouache and pastel. His works of enamel on copper are very characteristic and recognizable, because of the stylized black outlines and his beautiful use of color. He is therefore counted, along with Bonnard, Fauré and Sarlandie, among the greatest enamel artists of his time.

Jouhaud studied medicine in Limoges and Paris. During his studies in Paris he often visited the exhibitions of the Impressionists. In 1892 he finished his studies (bacteriology) and became a doctor in Paris and later in Limoges.

In 1906 he decided to give up his career and devote himself entirely to art. He lost all respect and was considered crazy by those around him. As a respected doctor, you didn't do such a thing. Yet he persevered. The director of the l'Ecole des Arts Decoratifs in Limoges introduced him to Paul Bonnard, a highly respected and progressive enamelist. He taught him the trade of enamelling with all the accompanying techniques. Charles Bichet, painter, also took him under his wing as an apprentice. They have always remained good friends and Jouhaud even married Bichet's daughter (Charlotte). Soon, however, he was also highly valued and respected as an artist.

His work is part of various museum collections and is very popular with collectors.
