  • About the artist

The company of Hermès was founded by Thierry Hermès in 1837 in Paris. In these earlier years the company was known to provide saddles and related products to European nobility. When these rich European families acquired the new hobby of travelling, a search for new products began.

Emile-Maurice Hermès, successor of Thierry, took this as an opportunity to introduce a line of trunks, bags and other supplies for the purpose of travelling, all of this still made of saddle leather. Not long after this a famous shop on the Rue Faubourg St Honoré in Paris was opened.

The store is still located here today and forms the flagship of the Hermès stores. Nowadays a wide range of products on offer at the company and items include fragrances, jewellery, scarves and ties.
