  LEVE DE ROTTERDAMSCHE SCHUTTERIJ! - "Het vertrek der Veldschutterij van Rotterdam, waaronder een groot aantal vrijwilligers, in het jaar 1830"Kleurenlithografie vervaardigd door Houtman te Utrecht naar het ontwerp van Quirijn Maurits Rudolf Ver Huell, los uitgegeven in oktober 1830 door W.J. van Oosterzee te Rotterdam. Afm. ca. 58 x 84 cm. In de tijd van het ontstaan van deze prent had Rotterdam een schutterij waarin mannelijke ingezetenen tussen 18 en 50 Jaar verplicht waren dienst te doen. Het was een soort burgerwacht om de stad te beschermen bij een aanval en de orde te handhaven bij oproer of brand. Van maart tot oktober werd twee keer per maand op de Beurs geëxerceerd, eens in het jaar werd er een algemene wapenschouwing gehouden op de Boompjes. In 1830 kwam de Belgische Opstand, de Zuidelijke Nederlanden dreigen zich af te splitsen. Een golf van vaderlandsliefde ging door de Nederlanden, zowel in de Noordelijk als de Zuidelijke. Tal van schutters meldden zich aan, ook uit Rotterdam. Per (stoom)boot vertrokken ze naar Antwerpen en werden daarbij enthousiast uitgeleide gedaan. Het mag echter niet baten, België wordt uiteindelijk onafhankelijk. Ver Huell (1787- 1860) was zee-officier en later directeur van de Marinewerf te Rotterdam. Hij was actief als tekenaar en auteur van reisverhalen en biografieën. Hij was een van de oprichters van de Rotterdamse Koninklijke Jachtclub, waar later het Etnografische en het Maritiem Museum aldaar uit zijn voortgekomen. Het leeuwendeel van de werk van Ver Huell bevindt zich in het Gemeente Museum te Arnhem en het Maritiem Museum. Grote, vroege, los uitgegeven lithografieën zijn bijzonder zeldzaam. Van dit schitterende gezicht op de stad zijn slechts enkele exemplaren bewaard gebleven. Prijs: Euro4.950,- (BTW margeregeling, incl. lijst)
