  • About the artwork

  • About the artist

Kristof Montens (Bruges, 1983) is an independent and enterprising artist who sees art as a source of positive impulses, beauty, wonder, and self-confidence. For him, nature is a healing force and an inexhaustible source of inspiration. His ambition is for people to not only feel good through his work, but also to learn to see the wonder of the everyday anew.

He considers the grooves in his works as fingerprints—unique traces of a creative identity found nowhere else. In his artistic process, he combines shapes, colors, and structures into a single, organic whole, in which meaning is central.

His concept, Shading Shapes, arose from a love of nature and a desire to breathe new life into dead matter. He transforms the chainsaw, which he symbolizes as the weapon used to fell trees, into a creative instrument. From recycled panels, he cuts organic lines and patterns, which he then fills with color. This creates a layering reminiscent of the nuances of a sunset or the play of light on bark and grass.

Montens's work pays tribute to nature. He captures small moments of beauty—the last sliver of light on a leaf, the dance of colors in the twilight—and translates them into works of art that enchant the viewer. His oeuvre invites us to pause, marvel, and experience how art and nature can heal, inspire, and connect.
