This painting shows a typical Dutch river landscape as it can be found in the polders of the province of Utrecht around the river Vecht. Van Rossum du Chatel loved to paint in this region; it inspired him to paint to the extend that critics called him the ‘the painter of the Vecht’.
He belongs to the second generation of the Hague School.

A proposito di opere artista
La regione del fiume Vecht a Utrecht ispirò F.J. van Rossum du Chattel a dipingere innumerevoli impressioni, tanto che i critici lo chiamarono "il pittore del Vecht". Dipinse anche il paesaggio intorno a L'Aia. Nato a Leida nel 1856, ricevette le prime lezioni di pittura dal padre, Jan Hendrik van Rossum du Chattel. Successivamente ha frequentato la Teekenschool a L'Aia e ha lavorato per l'impressionista dell'Aia Willem Maris presso lo studio di quest'ultimo. Sebbene chiaramente plasmato dalla Scuola dell'Aia, Van Rossum du Chattel avrebbe sviluppato uno stile del tutto individuale e riconoscibile.
