Johan Emmanuel van Riemsdijk (1881, Utrecht – 1928, The Hague), full name Willem Johan Emanuel Jonkheer van Riemsdijk), was a 2nd lieutenant of the cavalry in the Dutch Colonial Army and manager of the stud in Padalarang (Indonesia). In 1912 he married Maria Matthea de Roth at Darlinghurst, Sydney (New South-Wales), Australia. He was commissioned by the Dutch Colonial Army, which sent Van Riemsdijk to France, to report on the French methods of breeding and training thoroughtbred Arabian horses, apparently to improve the breeding of horses in the Dutch East Indies. Van Riemsdijk’s Verslag… over een eenjarig verblijf in Frankrijk (Account on a one-year stay in France) was published in Dutch around 1904.
