John O’Connor

John O’ Connor was an Irish painter, born in Count Londonderry on 12 August 1830. He died on 23 May 1889. O’ Connor worked in Belfast and Dublin where he painted theatrical scenery before moving to London in 1848, continuing in the same profession. He was the principal scenery painter at Drury Lane and Haymarket between 1863 and 1878. In 1855 he also started to focus on topographic painting. He began to exhibit at the Royal Academy in 1857.
