  The artwork titled “Xray Art – Magnum Black” captivates the essence of motion within a static canvas. • Over kunstenaar

  Voor kunstenaar James Chiew ontstaat niets uit toeval. Al zijn creatieve uitingen komen voort uit zijn enorme drang naar experiment en innovatie. In zijn veelzijdige mixedmediawerken zoekt de van origine Singaporese autodidact altijd de grens op. Dat zie je terug in zijn ideeën en materiaalkeuze. Op eigenzinnige en originele wijze combineert James (fotografische) beelden en objecten met verschillende materialen, zoals hout, metaal, acrylverf, epoxy en al het andere dat mogelijk is.

  Daarmee mixt hij moderne, grafische technieken met klassieke werkwijzen en analoge materialen.
  James Chiew: “Het digitale tijdperk biedt ongekende mogelijkheden. Ik experimenteer er lustig op los, omdat ik altijd op zoek ben naar nieuwe invalshoeken. De uitdaging voor mij is om het onmogelijke proberen te realiseren. 

  Ik wil dingen mooier maken. Dat begint vaak in mijn directe omgeving. Alledaagse voorwerpen thuis en in de studio probeer ik op een bijzondere manier te laten zien. Door objecten te pimpen laat ik mensen er anders naar kijken en over denken.” Zijn kunstwerken hebben altijd veel diepgang: letterlijk én figuurlijk ontdek je in zijn werken meerdere lagen.

  Fotografie vormt pas enkele jaren de basis voor James Chiew en bleek het startsein voor zijn nieuwe periode. De camera en fotomateriaal bieden hem ongekend veel perspectieven, wat direct resulteerde in zijn tot nu toe meest erkende werk: Beatrix 3-D. Hiermee werd hij in 2013 uitgenodigd voor de tentoonstelling ‘Beeld van Beatrix’ in Paleis Het Loo en Paleis Soestdijk ter ere van Beatrix’ 75e verjaardag.
