Pieternel, born in 1969, is a versatile artist whose artistic career has been characterized by remarkeble development and transformation. As a child, she was already busy depicting animal anatomy in her sketches. Mixing colors with different materials also gave her a braod palette of imagination. Her path to art was predetermined and developed through various phases that provided her with a braod foudation of knowledge, experience and creative inspiration.
After initially studying business economics, Pieternel delved into interior architecture. This academic training gave her a deep understanding of aesthetics, interior design and decorative elements. However, instead of focusing solely on theory, she discoverd her passion for the practical implementation of artistic ideas. As an entrepreneur, she dedecated herself to the decorative arts from 1999 onwards, working as a muralist, decorator, and restorer of old buildings, both professionally and personally. Her love of ancient an historic buildings led to numerous murals in this field, where she could express her creative ernergy while also achieving finacial succes.
Despite these professional successes, Pieternel felt the urge to delve even deeper into her true passion: animal art. Since 2005, she has worked as a professional artist, self-taught an driven by a deep connection with the animal kingdom. Her motivation stems from the infinite diversity and beauty of animals, which she considers inhexhaustible. In 2026, the need arose to combine the symbolism of the animal kingdom with ornamental art on de line. This blend of experience with ornamental elements and animals creates a unique narrative on line, where the rawness of textures with gold elements allows teh animals emerge from the background and tell their symbolic story.
Pieternel's paintings are characterized by her unique technique: she uses a palette knife to create her works. This method gives her paintings a unique texture and dynamism that brings the animals to life. By skillfully applying and modeling the paint, she creates a three-dimensional effect the gives the impression of the animals emerging from the painting or dissappearing into the backround of ornamental elements. The use of lime, clay, sand into acrylic, gold powder, gold leaf, and old waxes contribute to the textures an structures.
