About the artist

Albrecht Dürer was born in 1471 in the Fraconian city of Nuremberg, an artistic and commercial center during the fifteenth and sixteenth century. He was a painter, draftsman and writer, although he went down in history as a printmaker. Dürer was apprenticed by his father, a goldsmith, and another local painter. Dürer was engaged by the artistic practices and theoretical interests of italy. His talent was recognized by Emerors Maximilian I and Charles V, for whom he designed and executed several artistic projects. Dürer also cast a light on his own image through a number of self portraits, which reveal a successful and self-assured image. Dürer passed away in 1528.
