Arne Jacobsen (1902–1971) was one of Denmark’s most influential architects and designers, renowned for his holistic approach that seamlessly united architecture, furniture, and product design into one coherent vision.

Born in Copenhagen, Jacobsen studied architecture at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts, where his modernist ideas stood out early on. Deeply inspired by Le Corbusier and the Bauhaus movement, he sought to combine functionality with simplicity, giving rise to a distinct Scandinavian modernism defined by clarity, proportion, and elegance.

Jacobsen’s architectural legacy includes some of Denmark’s most iconic buildings — among them the SAS Royal Hotel in Copenhagen (1960), often considered the world’s first “designer hotel.” For this project, he designed everything from the façade and furniture to the cutlery and door handles, embodying his philosophy of “total design.”

As a designer, Jacobsen became a global symbol of modern style. His Egg Chair (1958), Swan Chair, and Series 7 Chair are timeless pieces that continue to shape contemporary interiors worldwide. Each reflects his ability to combine organic forms with precise engineering — beauty and utility in perfect balance.
