Daniel Marot was a French engraver, architect and furniture designer at the forefront of the classicizing late Baroque Louis XIV style. Since he was a protestant, he had to flee France in 1685, after which he settled in The Hague. Daniel Marot was a French engraver, architect and furniture designer at the forefront of the classicizing late Baroque Louis XIV style. Since he was a protestant, he had to flee France in 1685, after which he settled in The Hague. He introduced the Louix XIV court style in the Netherlands and United Kingdom, designing important buildings such as the Paleis Kneuterdijk and two wings of the Paleis Huis ten Bosch. He also worked as an engraver; he is known for his 250 engravings which were used for wallpaper- and furniture designs. Marot died in 1752 in his home at Noordeinde 164, The Hague.
