Ernest Sigismund Witkamp was a Dutch painter, draftsman, watercolourist and etcher. He received his education at the Rijksakademie van Beeldende Kunsten (National Academy of Fine Arts) in Amsterdam from 1871 to 1877 and later was active in Amsterdam, Paris, Belgium, France and Germany. Ernest Sigismund Witkamp was a Dutch painter, draftsman, watercolourist and etcher. He received his education at the Rijksakademie van Beeldende Kunsten (National Academy of Fine Arts) in Amsterdam from 1871 to 1877 and later was active in Amsterdam, Paris, Belgium, France and Germany. He was a member of the artist association Arti et Amicitiae in Amsterdam and established the association M.A.B. together with among others Nicolaas van der Waay. In 1882 he won the Willink van Collen Prize for young painters. He also was curator at the Museum Fodor, Amsterdam from 1894 until his death in 1897.
