About the artist
Jan te Wierik began his artistic career in the 1970s as a visual artist in Haaksbergen. Over the course of his career, his focus shifted to painting, where he developed a unique style.
Initially, Te Wierik worked primarily with a spatula, which gave his work a powerful and tactile character. Later, he combined various painting techniques, freely interweaving materials and working methods. This experimental approach resulted in paintings with a rich texture and expressive layering.
Jan te Wierik was self-taught: he independently mastered painting, free from academic frameworks. It is precisely this independent development that gives his work an authentic and personal signature. His oeuvre reflects a continuous search for form, material, and expression.
