Jan Wittenberg, born in The Hague January 30, 1886, died in Ede (Gld.) September 19, 1963.
Was married to the artist W.M.J. Schmid. Lived and worked in The Hague, Zierikzee, Dordrecht, Rhoon, Zwartewaal, Poortugaal, Doorn, Bennekom. Student of P.F.J.N. Arntzenius, from the Academy of Visual Arts The Hague, advice from W.A. from Konijnenburg.
Received the royal subsidy in 1912, 1913 and 1914. Painted, drew, lithographed still lifes, portraits, landscapes, animals (particularly birds). Was a member of 'Arti et Amicitiae' and of the Edean artist group 'Punt 62'.
