About the artist

Paul Van Hoeydonck is a Belgian artist born in Antwerp, on 8th of October, 1925. In 1941 he started attending an evening drawing course at the Academy of Antwerp. Later, he worked in the drawing studio of Jos Hendrickx. Van Hoeydonck earned a graduate degree in art history at the Art History Institute in Antwerp as well.

In 1955 Van Hoeydonck worked in a geometric abstract style for a brief period of time. He became a co-founder of the groups 'Art Abstrait', 'Fromes', and 'Art Construit'.

In 1957 he created is first monochrome white abstract 'Lightworks'. In 1956, 1957 and 19959 he held a series of solo-expositions in the renowned galerie Saint-Laurent in Brussels.

In 2014, Van Hoeydonck became a Knight in the Leopoldsorde.
