- About the artist
Hiroomi Ito (Tokyo, 1970) is a Japanese artist based in Barcelona. His work is immediately recognizable for its refined compositions and meticulous technique, which at first glance evoke the aesthetics of Nihonga—traditional Japanese painting.
On closer observation, however, Ito’s practice reveals a more layered pictorial language. Shaped by his long residence in Catalonia, his work reflects an ongoing dialogue between tradition and displacement, East and West.
Through this subtle tension, Ito explores questions of identity, memory, and cultural origin, creating paintings that balance classical Japanese sensibilities with a distinctly contemporary and cross-cultural perspective.
