Paul de Vries is a Dutch silversmith and designer based in Schoonhoven. In 1991, he founded Atelier Passì, where he initially focused on designing and crafting his own jewelry collections. After returning to Schoonhoven—historically known as the city of silver—his focus shifted increasingly to designing and crafting large silver pieces, in which he fully expresses his artistic vision.
For De Vries, silversmithing is a deep-rooted passion and the primary medium for storytelling. In an ongoing dialogue between heart, mind, and hands, he explores the possibilities of the precious metal. He sees the artisanal process as an adventurous quest, in which experience continually opens up new perspectives and forms. His work is characterized by a strong layering of content and a refined balance between technique, form, and expressiveness.
Paul de Vries's oeuvre has been exhibited nationally and internationally and is held in various museum and private collections. His craftsmanship and artistic quality have been recognized with numerous awards and selections for prestigious projects and presentations. In 2016, he was appointed Stadtgoldschmied of Schwäbisch Gmünd, an honorable title that enjoys international recognition within the silversmithing world.
In addition to his independent work, De Vries also designs and realizes commissions for individuals and artists with specific requests. He also carries out restorations and repairs, with a focus on respect for historical craftsmanship and materials.
Since 2013, he has been teaching silversmithing courses and workshops for both beginners and professionals. For him, sharing knowledge and experience represents a new, enriching dimension to his practice: sharing craftsmanship, inspiration, and passion for silversmithing.
