  Few artists have explored the relationship between line, shape and space as rigorously as Robert Mangold. Associated with the generation of American Minimalist and Post-Minimalist artists that emerged in the 1960s and 1970s, Mangold developed a visual language in which geometry becomes both subject and structure.
  This 1972 silkscreen exemplifies the clarity and precision for which the artist is renowned. A muted ochre triangle occupies the centre of the composition, its form subtly articulated by a network of fine linear divisions. While the geometric structure appears rational and systematic, closer inspection reveals delicate shifts in proportion, balance and spatial perception.   Robert Mangold (born 1937) is an acclaimed American painter and printmaker, internationally recognized as one of the leading figures of Minimalism and postwar abstract art. Alongside contemporaries such as Robert Ryman, Sol LeWitt, and Agnes Martin, Mangold redefined the language of painting by reducing it to its essential elements of shape, line, color, and surface.

  Since the 1960s, his distinctive geometric compositions have explored the relationship between form and perception, often featuring curved or irregularly shaped canvases outlined with delicate graphite lines and muted, luminous color fields.
