  • About the artwork
The Basque artist, Jon Errazu resides in Barcelona but revisits the mountains and landscapes of his birth place time and again. Through the use of Chinese ink and acrylic in his signature monochromatic palette, he explores the sense of solitude, calm and natural beauty they emit. He takes us on mist filled journeys inviting us to contemplate nature’s majesty, the opaque haunting beauty of his mountains, inky lakes and horizons. Like the fog that envelopes his canvases we are enveloped in solitude and contemplation.

Manuel Ruano said of Errazu’s Black Mountain and Paisaiak series: “They are born of the landscape of his native land, but they deal with the landscapes of the human ‘soul’, of metaphysics: the self, introspection, solitude, anguish.”Errazu the geologist, the artist, speaks to us of ancient fable and of great unknown legend, of mystery hidden in the white charcoal of the mists, of an oriental poem full of serenity and acceptance. In his figurative expressionism, almost abstract and minimalist, there is a particular fusion of the most solid with the most liquid: great mountains and overwhelming lakes are presented as fragile flashes of a sensitive state of mind.

  • About the artist

Jon Errazu is a contemporary Basque artist based in Barcelona, Spain, known for his restrained and contemplative approach to landscape painting. His work is characterized by a minimalist visual language in which subtle tones, atmospheric depth, and simplified forms evoke a quiet sense of space and introspection.

Born and raised in the Basque Country, Errazu developed a deep connection to the region’s natural environment—its mist-covered mountains, rugged coastlines, and shifting skies. These landscapes continue to serve as an enduring source of inspiration. Rather than depicting specific locations, he distills the essence of these environments, translating memory and atmosphere into calm, meditative compositions.

Errazu’s paintings are often defined by soft gradients, muted palettes, and expansive horizons that create a feeling of stillness and solitude. By reducing visual elements to their essentials, he invites the viewer to pause and reflect, turning the landscape into a space for contemplation rather than narrative.

Working primarily with acrylic and oil on canvas, he builds his surfaces through delicate layers of color and light. The resulting works possess a quiet luminosity, suggesting fog, distance, and the fleeting conditions of nature. Through this understated approach, Jon Errazu’s paintings explore the emotional resonance of landscape and the human longing for silence, balance, and connection with the natural world.
