Designed by famous Finnish artist Timo Sarpaneva in 1953 and executed by Iittala glassworks in 1957. These vases were made in only two sizes so this is a early complete set and also matched in year of production (1957).
Both Heart sculptures are fully marked underneath the base in diamondpen: Timo Sarpaneva – Iittala – 57 (1957).
About Timo Sarpaneva
Timo Sarpaneva (Helsinki, Finland 1926 – Helsinki, Finland 2006) was an influential Finnish designer, sculptor, and educator best known in the art world for innovative work in glass.
While glass remained his most commonly addressed medium, he worked with metal, wood, textiles, and porcelain (china).
His work was among the key components that helped to launch Finland’s reputation as a trailblazer of design.
Recipient of many rewards, among others: The Luning prize (1956), Grand Prix Triennale di Milan (1954, 1957) and Gold medal, Concorso Internazionale della Ceramica d’Arte Contemporanea, Faenza (1976).

Condition
These art-objects are in good vintage condition, some minor scratches consistent with age and use. The larger one has a small "snakebite" on the side. No cracks or chips.

Timo Tapani Sarpaneva (31 ottobre 1926 - 6 ottobre 2006) è stato un influente designer, scultore ed educatore finlandese meglio conosciuto nel mondo dell'arte per il lavoro innovativo in vetro, che spesso fondeva attributi di oggetti d'arte da esposizione con designazioni utilitaristiche.
Mentre il vetro è rimasto il suo mezzo più comunemente utilizzato, ha lavorato con metallo, legno, tessuti e porcellana (porcellana). Sarpaneva è entrata nelle case di tutto il mondo attraverso il suo design industriale di oggetti di alto livello e concepiti artisticamente, tra cui pentole in ghisa e stoviglie in porcellana.
Il suo lavoro è stato tra i componenti chiave che hanno contribuito a lanciare la reputazione della Finlandia come pioniere del design.
