- A proposito di opere artistaGer Lataster (Schaesberg, 16 febbraio 1920) può essere annoverato tra gli espressionisti astratti. Dopo aver studiato all'Industrial Art College di Maastricht, ha poi studiato alla National Academy of Visual Arts di Amsterdam. Lataster è in grado di applicare all'estremo l'espressionismo astratto. Usando elementi, tecniche e materiali contrastanti, sa sorprendere l'osservatore più volte. Poiché Lataster utilizza queste tecniche in modo coerente, le sue opere d'arte risultano affidabili, per quanto grandi siano stati i cambiamenti negli ultimi anni. Opere ben note di Lataster sono il dipinto 'Spelende kinderen' (bambini che giocano) - realizzato nel 1954 e commissionato dal comune di Heerlen - e il monumentale soffitto dipinto per il museo Mauritshuis all'Aia, Icarus Atlanticus, 1987-1988. Lataster è uno degli artisti olandesi di maggior successo della sua generazione.
