    Albertus Charles Andre Tanama was born in Yogyakarta on March 28th, 1982. He is the second child from
    four children. Born in a Chiwa (Chinesse and Javanese) family. His father is Tan Kian Bie (Albert Ryanto) and
    his mother is Caecilia Ruwini.

    Throughout college years, Andre received Best Printmaking Award for 3 period (2002, 2003, and 2005). In
    2003 he also received Gudang Garam Scholarship (via Lippo Bank) because he passed the selection in KriaISI
    Exhibition a National Museum Jakarta. Also in 2003, five of his printmaking artworks became finalists in the
    First Indonesia Printmaking Triennial. He achieved so many things and in September 2006 he is the first
    winner of “Trienal Seni Grafis Indonesia II 2006” (The Second Indonesia Printmaking Triennial) a prestigious
    national printmaking competition. In 2007 he was awarded an Academic Art award for the category Emerging
    artist in Printmaking. This competition was organized by Jogja Gallery and Indonesia Institute of the Arts
    Yogyakarta.
    Beside his teaching activity in the university and art activities outside the university, Andre was also asked to
    teach painting lesson at several reputable kindergarten in Yogyakarta (Yogya Kids Kindergarten, Bambini
    Montessory Kindergarten, and Olifant Preschool). Andre was also an illustrator for “Suramnya Bayang-
    bayang” short story by S. H. Mintardja on Kedaulatan Rakyat daily (newspaper).
    In 2005, Andre graduated cum laude from ISI Yogyakarta. As a holder of Bachelor of Art degree, he became a
    young lecturer in Faculty of Fine Art, Indonesia Institute of Arts (ISI) Yogyakarta in 2006. “Before becoming a
    lecturer I used to teach in Kindergarten while also working at Calista Digital Photo Studio as Graphic Designer
    in Printing Division. At home I also took orders such as pencil drawing portrait or caricature. The buyers
    usually were my friends.”

    Albertus Charles Andre Tanama, Andre Tanama, nato nel 1982 a Yogyakarta, Indonesia, è un artista versatile e docente presso l'Institut Seni Indonesia (ISI) di Yogyakarta. Ha conseguito il Sarjana Seni con lode presso l'ISI Yogyakarta nel 2005 e ha completato il Magister Seni nel 2010, sempre con lode. ​

    Nel corso della sua carriera artistica, Tanama ha ricevuto numerosi premi. Nel 2006 ha vinto la seconda Triennale Seni Grafis Indonesia al Bentara Budaya di Giacarta ed è stato riconosciuto come uno dei 40 migliori giovani artisti in Indonesia dalla Jogja Gallery.

    Nel 2007 ha ricevuto l'Academic Art Award I per la stampa d'arte dall'FSR ISI Yogyakarta e una borsa di studio per la creazione nella stampa d'arte dal Ministero dell'Istruzione Nazionale. ​

    L'opera di Tanama è caratterizzata da tre caratteri unici:
    Wayang Monyong, Gwen Silent e Agathos. Wayang Monyong è una deformazione della testa umana, causata da preoccupazioni personali e ansie quotidiane.

    Gwen Silent, una bambina di 4-5 anni con gli occhi chiusi e senza bocca, simboleggia la discrepanza tra percezione e realtà.

    Agathos agisce come controparte di Gwen Silent, in modo simile al principio yin-yang, e rappresenta l'equilibrio tra il mondo interiore e quello esteriore. ​

    Le sue opere sono state esposte sia a livello nazionale che internazionale, con mostre personali tra cui "The Tales of Gwen Silent" al Bentara Budaya Yogyakarta e Jakarta e "Agathos" alla Langgeng Gallery, Magelang. Ha partecipato anche a mostre collettive in paesi come i Paesi Bassi, Singapore e Italia. ​

    Oltre alle sue attività artistiche, Tanama è attivo come insegnante presso l'ISI Yogyakarta, dove condivide le sue conoscenze e la sua esperienza con artisti emergenti. ​
