This work was included in the series Flower Studies (Bloemstudies). These prints, like the works from the Animal Studies series, were rarely signed in pencil. The artist would occasionally sign them as a courtesy to an owner or a friend at the time.

Theodorus ("Theo") van Hoytema nacque il 18 dicembre 1863 a L'Aia. Morì il 28 agosto 1917, L'Aia. Ha vissuto e lavorato a Leida, Delft, Amsterdam, Rijswijk (Olanda meridionale) 1890-1891, Loosduinen fino al 1894, Voorburg fino al 1898, Hilversum dopo il 1898, Amsterdam, Londra 1905, Rijngeest 1905-1906, Voorburg, L'Aia (temporanea Texel ). Van Hoytema ha studiato all'Akademie van Beeldende Kunsten (Accademia di Belle Arti) a L'Aia. Fu pittore ma anche acquarellista, incisore e disegnatore, specializzato in animali e piante. Era un abile disegnatore e litografo di uccelli. È stato membro della società artistica di Amsterdam “Arti et Amicitae”. Ha insegnato a E.H.J. van Eysinga, A.E. Humalda van Eysinga, M. Cramer, Th. F. Goedvrind, Th. G. Meissner, G. Knuttel. Ha firmato: Theo van Hoytema. Espone ad Amsterdam, Arnhem e L'Aia. Il suo lavoro si trova nelle collezioni del Museum Boymans-van Beuningen Rotterdam, Haags Gemeentemuseum, Dordrechts Museum e Centraal Museum Utrecht, Rijksmuseum Kröller-Müller Otterlo.
