Ernst Leyden was born on the 16th of May in 1892 in the city of Rotterdam.
Leyden is known for his watercolor paintings, his portraits, which include self-portraits, landscapes and still-lives.
Leyden married Karin Kluth in 1932 (who became Karin Leyden-Kluth)
Leyden was educated in many different cities at different academies all over the world. From the Academy of Arts in Rotterdam, to Brussels, to Berlin and London.
His traveling went on during the time he worked as a painter. He worked from about 1944 until 1969 worldwide. Even though he visited places like Mexico, Paris, Portugal and New York, he also worked in several Dutch places like Laren, Urk, Loosdrecht, The Hague and Amsterdam.
Together with his wife Karin, he was able to mingle amongst the High Society artists like Charles Chaplin, Salvador Dali, Marc Chagall, Bertold Brecht and Diego Riviera. These meetings often led to portraits and murals.
As a man of the world Ernst Leyden moved to Montfort-l'Amaury, in France, at the end of his life where he died in 1969
Karin and Ernst van Leyden were very successful during their lives but seem to have been slightly forgotten after their deaths. Fortunately, Leyden's works remind the people of today of the accomplishments Karin and Ernst Leyden had during their lives.
