  At the beginning of his career, Lemmen was influenced by Degas and Toulouse Lautrec. He particularly depicted subjects from the modern daily life. In 1888, Lemmen became a member of the artist association Les Vingt (Les XX), where he became acquainted with the colour theory of Seurat. He started to paint pointillist and made wonderful portraits. However, Lemmen was too much of a painter to keep working in this style and after 1900 he found a more free style with loose brushstrokes and rich colours.

  Georges Lemmen foi um artista belga impressionista e pontilhista, gravador e ilustrador. Ele estudou na escola de desenho em Sint-Joost-ten-Node por um curto período e em 1888 ingressou no Les XX (Les Vingt), um grupo de artistas e escultores de vanguarda em Bruxelas ativo entre 1883 e 1893. No No início da década de 1880, Lemmen foi influenciado por Degas e Toulouse-Lautrec e, a partir de 1890, mudou-se para o neo-impressionismo, influenciado por Théo van Rysselberghe, que também era membro do Les XX. Les XX foi muito influente na divulgação do neo-impressionismo. Lemmen é conhecido principalmente por suas paisagens, naturezas mortas, retratos e paisagens urbanas.
