  At the beginning of his career, Lemmen was influenced by Degas and Toulouse Lautrec. He particularly depicted subjects from the modern daily life. In 1888, Lemmen became a member of the artist association Les Vingt (Les XX), where he became acquainted with the colour theory of Seurat. He started to paint pointillist and made wonderful portraits. However, Lemmen was too much of a painter to keep working in this style and after 1900 he found a more free style with loose brushstrokes and rich colours.

  Georges Lemmen è stato un artista, incisore e illustratore, impressionista e puntinista belga. Studiò per un breve periodo alla scuola di disegno di Sint-Joost-ten-Node e nel 1888 si unì a Les XX (Les Vingt), un gruppo di artisti e scultori d'avanguardia a Bruxelles attivo tra il 1883 e il 1893.

  Primi anni 1880 Lemmen fu influenzato da Degas e Toulouse-Lautrec e dal 1890 in poi si spostò verso il neoimpressionismo, influenzato da Théo van Rysselberghe, che era anche un membro di Les XX.

  Les XX è stato molto influente nella diffusione del neoimpressionismo. Lemmen è principalmente noto per i suoi paesaggi, nature morte, ritratti e paesaggi urbani. Espone alle mostre Les XX a Bruxelles e al Salon des Indépendants di Parigi.

  Nel 1895 Lemmen dipinse più nel tradizionale stile impressionista invece che nel puntinismo.

  La sua mostra a Bruxelles nel 1913, una mostra personale, fu un grande successo.
