About the artist
Alfons Josephus van Dijck was a Belgian painter, draftsman, watercolourist and wood engraver. At age 21, in 1915, he moved to the Netherlands because the Germans shut down the Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp, where he followed lessons. In 1919, he moved to Veere, the Netherlands where he lived and worked from then on. He painted landscapes, cityscapes, still lifes and portraits, but mostly he painted Veere, a small harbour city. He worked with recognisable gouaches and warm colours.
