“Earth layers, dry riverbeds, gnarled bark, fossils. Fascinated by their appearances and history, I feel them with my eyes and hands and translate them into clay. In my work I want to show the beauty of surfaces where time has left its mark”. – Yolanda Verdegaal

Jolanda Verdegaal uses techniques that make use of the shrinking of drying clay for the skin of her work (turned on the potter's wheel). Modeled elements such as twigs and stelae or accents of gold provide striking contrasts with the weathered surfaces. Her work is fired at a high temperature.
