Rik Jager, born as Hendrik Jager on May 29, 1933 in Delft, spent his life and artistic career mainly in Almelo. His education included:

- Royal Academy of Art in The Hague (1958-1960)
- Academy of Visual Arts in Rotterdam (1950-1954)

In his early years, Rik Jager had contacts with the Informal Group Netherlands, which included well-known artists such as Armando, Van Bohemen and Schoonhoven. However, he distinguished himself from the abstract and formless approach adopted by the Informals.

The work of Rik Jager that we know today mainly includes showcases, both large and small. Within these showcases he painted houses, trees and fences/walls. These elements served as symbols for security, struggle/growth and territorial demarcation, respectively.

Rik Jager was also a member of the Posthoorngroep, where he exhibited his works in the period 1957-1959.
